Ranking installers country wide by reviews
Back in early 2024 we ranked the top solar installers across the country and for each state. While this list might be a bit out of date many of these companies are still considered the best!

Who are the highest-rated solar, battery, and EV charger installers near you? I created a spreadsheet that collects the Google reviews of 700+ companies to figure out who the best installer in each part of the country is.
The top ten installers specialise in serving their home states
All the companies listed came from the NETCC-approved installer list, primarily run by the Clean Energy Council.
Interestingly, after filtering all of the 700+ installers, the country's top ten installers only service the state where they are based.
One reason might be that most states have regulations and rules for solar, battery, and other installations, and each installer wants to specialise in just one set of regulations.
To simplify their service, these top ten companies have focused on mastering their domains, rarely venturing outside their home state.
Also, I'm sure there is a level of detail that goes into the work of the top ten that they otherwise couldn't maintain if they tried to stretch themselves too thin, trying to service more states. This also helps to avoid subcontracting jobs, putting their reputation on the line.

Cutting it close in the #11 spot is a company called VEnergy, which has 142 reviews with a 5-star rating and operates in all of the above states. You'll see VEnergy pop up quite a lot when it comes to the state by state ranking.
But the point is it's not necessarily a bad signal if an installer services more than one state. There are great country wide installers out there as well.
The top ten installers for each state
Although the following lists are state by state, some of the installers in each state only service specific regions of a state or even only certain parts of a city.
Best to check with the company before reaching out! But at the very least you should be able to find at least a couple that you can work with from the lists below.
Also, the companies listed below are not the only 5-star companies out there. There are heaps of great companies with perfect scores beyond the top ten. These are only the top ten with the most Google reviews.

The worse installers in each state and a word of caution
I'm not one to punch down, so I won't post the names of the worst installers in the country. A couple of them even have some okay-ish reviews, so it can be subjective sometimes..
Instead, a bit of advice: when you have a solar salesman knocking at your door, an ad pops up on Facebook, or you get a quote from an installer you got from the Internet. Google the company and spend a few minutes researching its reputation.
There are quite a few dodgy solar installers out there who have left a long trail of unhappy customers behind them. Do not be end up being one of those unsatisfied customers.
