Renewable Energy Initiatives
Alinta Energy has limited renewable energy initiatives for its customers.
One of Alinta Energy’s green offerings for its customers is the Carbon Balance plan. While Alinta Energy doesn’t offer the option to purchase GreenPower to residential customers, it does have a Carbon Balance plan where the emissions from your energy usage are offset by the retailer.
Apart from this, Alinta is involved in building wind farms, battery storage project, solar gas hybrid project, and buying renewable energy from solar and wind farms across Australia.
Solar Energy & Solar Feed-in Tariff
You can get solar feed-in tariffs with all the energy plans. The rates are as follows:
VIC: 4.9¢/kWh
NSW: 6.7¢/kWh
QLD: 8¢/kWh
SA: 5.5¢/kWh
Billing and Payment Options
Alinta Energy allows you to pay your energy bills in all the usual ways. If you’re on the BetterDeal plan, you can only receive bills online.
You can pay your bills by direct debit, PayPal, BPAY, by phone, in person at any post office or by mailing the cheque.
Alinta Energy also offers the option of using SmoothPay or HelpPay for bill payments.
SmoothPay estimates your annual energy cost based on your usage history and divides the cost into 12 equal instalments. You then pay the same amount every month, eliminating the possibility of bill shock.
HelpPay is an app that allows your friends and family to help with your energy bills. You can upload your energy bill to the app, create a link to a payment page and share it with your family and friends who can then support you in paying it.

|---|---|
| NSW | 3 to 8c per kWh |
| VIC | 0 to 8c per kWh |
| QLD | 2 to 8c per kWh |
| SA | 0 to 5c per kWh |

Does Alinta Energy have a VPP?
Yes. A VPP, or Virtual Power Plant, pays you for letting the retailer draw on your home battery at peak times. Alinta Energy runs Solar Together, a subscription VPP with National Renewables Network. It is not a bring your own battery program: a solar and battery system is installed at no upfront cost, you pay reduced rates for the power it supplies plus a daily fee, and ownership reverts to you after 12 years. The system is supplied and owned by National Renewables Network, with VIC and QLD expansion planned.
Battery friendly plans
Alinta Energy offers time of use plans, the plan type a battery pairs best with: charge when power is cheap, discharge through the evening peak.
