This blends battery only installs with the battery line inside a combined solar and battery system, so every bracket below clears a large enough sample to publish safely. Prices are before rebates, including GST. The middle half column shows the spread between the cheapest quarter and the dearest quarter of quotes, per kWh of capacity.

Two patterns stand out. Bigger batteries are much cheaper per kWh, roughly $751 per kWh at 30 kwh and above versus $1,175 per kWh in the 15 to 20 kwh range. And the spread within each size is wide. Two quotes for the same capacity can differ by thousands of dollars, which is exactly why checking your quote against the market matters.
Solar and battery together
Most quotes we see bundle solar and a battery in one total: 202 of the 246 quotes in our data. The median combined system, typically around 10.6 kW of solar with a battery, came to $27,928 before rebates, with the middle half of quotes falling between $22,307 and $33,728. If you are pricing a popular combination like a 9.9 kW solar system with a battery, that is the range to sanity check against.
What the federal rebate takes off in 2026
The Cheaper Home Batteries Program discounts the installed price based on usable capacity. As at July 2026 the rates are about $272 per kWh for the first 14 kWh, $163 per kWh up to 28 kWh, then $41 per kWh up to 50 kWh. Rough estimates:

- Brand tier and usable versus nominal capacity explain most of the spread. A premium brand carries a real premium over a value brand for the same capacity, and two 13.5 kWh batteries can store different amounts you can actually use, so always compare on usable kWh.
