Aurora Energy Review
Aurora Energy is a Tasmanian government-owned energy retailer with straightforward plans.
Published: Dec 08, 2023

Introduction
Aurora Energy is a Tasmanian government-owned electricity and gas provider. It only operates in Tasmania.
Aurora Energy has straightforward electricity plans on offer based on the tariffs —
Peak and Off-peak tariff for those who usually consume more power during the day and want more control over their power bills.
Residential Flat Rate is for those who don’t want to worry about when they’re consuming power or usually use power on weekday mornings and evenings. If you have electric hot water and wired heating, residential flat rate might be more suitable.

Aurora Energy: batteries, VPP and feed in tariff
Solar feed in tariff
| State | Aurora Energy feed in tariff |
|---|---|
| TAS | 9.3c per kWh |
Tasmania keeps a regulated minimum feed in tariff, so the rate is the same on every plan for 2026 to 2027.
Does Aurora Energy have a VPP?
No. A VPP, or Virtual Power Plant, pays you for letting the retailer draw on your home battery at peak times. As at July 2026, Aurora Energy does not offer one. Retailers that do are compared on our VPP page below.
Battery friendly plans
Aurora Energy offers time of use plans, the plan type a battery pairs best with: charge when power is cheap, discharge through the evening peak. Aurora markets its Tariff 93 peak and off peak pricing for charging a battery cheaply, with off peak covering most of the week.
