OVO Energy

Introduction

OVO Energy first launched in the UK and began its operations in Australia in 2019. It claims to have a green approach.

OVO Energy offers a single simple plan in all states. Additionally, Victoria has ‘The Free 3 Plan’ which offers free electricity usage from 11am to 2pm.

A feature that sets OVO Energy apart from other providers is its payment method. It has compulsory bill smoothing where your annual electricity usage and cost are estimated, and you pay an equal amount in monthly instalments over the year.

OVO Energy provides electricity in:

  • NSW

  • VIC

Does OVO Energy have a VPP?

No. A VPP, or Virtual Power Plant, pays you for letting the retailer draw on your home battery at peak times. As at July 2026, OVO Energy does not offer one. Retailers that do are compared on our VPP page below.

Battery friendly plans

OVO Energy offers time of use plans, the plan type a battery pairs best with: charge when power is cheap, discharge through the evening peak. The Free 4 plan gives free power from 11am to 3pm every day with no daily cap, which a battery can charge from, and The EV Plan has a 4.5c super off peak window after midnight.
