Powershop

Introduction

Powershop, a part of Shell Energy Australia, is an energy company highlighting its green initiatives such as its energy plan for electric vehicle owners. It also prides itself in having a mobile app that closely tracks energy usage habits and history.

Powershop provides electricity in:

  • NSW

  • VIC

  • SA

  • QLD

Powershop offers three plans in all four states.

Switch Saver, a plan with a limited-time sign-up offer attached, is available in NSW, VIC and QLD. This offer is not available in SA where Power House plan is available instead.

The Power Drive plan will be available to you only if you own an electric vehicle and are an existing Powershop customer. This plan offers a cost-effective option of charging your EV overnight, between midnight and 4am.

The Power Offset plan includes Powershop offsetting the carbon emissions from your electricity usage.

Pricing and Plans

Comparing prices is only helpful if you compare it with your energy usage. Head over to your energy dashboard to see your plan pricing for Powershop.

Does Powershop Offer Gas?

Powershop offers gas in NSW and VIC. Powershop doesn’t offer gas-only plans. You can get a Powershop gas connection only in conjunction with an electricity plan. The gas plans are 100% carbon neutral.

Does Powershop have a VPP?

Yes. A VPP, or Virtual Power Plant, pays you for letting the retailer draw on your home battery at peak times. Powershop runs the Powershop Virtual Power Plant. It pays monthly bill credits by battery size: $10 a month under 10 kWh, $25 a month for 10 to 15 kWh, and up to $40 a month above that. Eligibility follows the Evergen hardware compatibility list, needs a smart meter, and you cannot be in another VPP.

Battery friendly plans

Powershop offers time of use plans, the plan type a battery pairs best with: charge when power is cheap, discharge through the evening peak.
